Walking into a professional photo studio for the first time can feel a little intimidating. But it doesn't have to be. With a bit of preparation, your session will be relaxed, fun, and result in photos you'll love. Here are our top five tips.
1. Wear the Right Colours
Avoid busy patterns and logos — they distract from your face. Solid, medium-toned colours work best on camera. Navy, burgundy, forest green, and grey all look great. Avoid pure white (it blows out) and very dark black (it can look too heavy).
2. Keep Makeup Natural
Studio lighting is bright and honest. Heavy makeup that looks great in real life can look overdone on camera. Keep it natural and use a matte finish to avoid shine. Bring your makeup so you can touch up between shots.
3. Arrive a Few Minutes Early
Give yourself time to settle in, have a look around, and chat to your photographer before the camera comes out. Being relaxed makes a huge difference in how natural you look.
4. Trust Your Photographer
Our team will guide you on posing and angles. You don't need to know how to pose — that's our job. Just listen, try what we suggest, and have fun with it.
5. Bring Options
If you're not sure what to wear, bring two or three outfit options and decide on the day. We can usually do quick outfit changes during the session.
